Hey y’all and welcome to A Blender Mom. My name is Shanaka (pronounced Shonica or Shanuhkuh) and I’m the Mama of a newly blended family.

Blender Mom

I’m a small town, southern girl- born, raised, and still living in central Virginia. I say y’all and bless a lot of hearts. I was married for 8 years then divorced. I am now very happily married to my best friend, a guy who we call Jersey Boy or Geek Daddy here on the blog. We eloped to Disney and then later had a family sand ceremony with our children. Jersey Boy has a tween daughter, Bry. We now have a baby girl together, Kaylee, who was born in November. My two boys and I plus his one girl and him then adding in our little girl gives us a newly blended family.

I’m a mama surviving off of iced coffee, wine, Dr Pepper and sweet tea. I embraced life as a mom of all boys though I felt out numbered some days. I didn’t think I would make it as a stay at home Mom but I have done all right (I suppose) and my two boys and new baby girl are my proof that I don’t have to be perfect or always know what I’m doing to be a good parent. I loved my time at home as a SAHM years ago but also loved my jobs at Target and the bank, after all the bank is where I met Jersey Boy. Now that we have a baby at home I am back to the stay at home mom/ work from home mom role. I spend my “free mom time” trying to expand my cosplay wardrobe, working on bettering my photography skills, creating recipes, decorating cakes, checking out plus size fashion, and trying to stay current on all the latest technology. Recently, I have joined the Mom Does Reviews team as a writer so you can find me over there occasionally as well as here at home on A Blender Mom.

Caleb, my oldest fella is all most a teenager. How am I old enough to have a teen? He is a sensitive guy with a big heart and would do anything to help someone in need. He loves playing ball (basketball, baseball, football) and is a big West Virginia fan. He also is my little (shh! He’ll always be my little boy) hunter and beekeeper. When he’s having his alone time I can usually find him playing outside, building with Lego bricks or playing on the playstations, Wii U or iPad. He also is very competitive when it comes to our family game nights.

Kyle (9) is my youngest little dude. He’s the family comedian. He will also tell you as he sees it in a heartbeat and not think twice about it. He is my crafting buddy. If he hears me say paint, glue or craft he is right beside me wondering what I am doing. He enjoys crafting, cooking, drawing, reading, playing on the playstations and with his Skylanders on the Wii U.

You can read more about my hubby to be on his blog: Proud Geek Daddy. He’s my rock. In the short time we have been together we have experienced A LOT. He’s the Han Solo to my Princess Leia. Yes, we are that geeky. If one says I love you the other replies with I know.

I’m enjoying my new role as step mom to Geek Daddy’s daughter Bry. She loves the color pink, spending time with her Dad, crafting (she’s learning sewing, she makes her own doll clothes and accessories), and is wanting to learn more about makeup as well as being a vlogger.

The last ingredient to the Blender Mom family is little miss Kaylee. She was born November 18, 2016. She has been a wonderful addition to the family. I can’t wait to see her grow and share her with y’all here.

Geek Daddy and I both enjoy getting the kids to experience new things and traveling. While I was pregnant with Kaylee we took our first family vacation to Disney World and we are hoping to go back with Kaylee soon. We have also enjoyed hosting various Disney parties showing off our #DisneySide

Why do I blog? I wanted to be a writer and own a day care when I was growing up. I’m still “growing up” but I get to do both of my “dream jobs” as I write blog posts and raise my children. I love to get out and see as many new places as I can. Recently the family has been to Walt Disney World, Baltimore, Busch Gardens Williamsburg (brand ambassador), Great Wolf Lodge (Williamsburg), LegoFest (Richmond, VA), Virginia Beach, Six Flags America (Maryland), Dover International Raceway, as well as other local VA/NC/NJ spots. I took the boys to the Tuckerton Seaport (New Jersey) for the first time and we stayed at a campground in a cabin. On my own, I have traveled to Chicago, Georgia (a few times) and Myrtle Beach. This coming year I don’t know what travel plans are awaiting me but I am working on making it another great year full of adventure and memories for us all.

Wilton cakes

I enjoy baking and decorating cakes and sweet treats as well as cooking up and sharing recipes. I had a dream come true when I got to tour the Wilton school, store and test kitchen and got hands on in the Wilton test kitchen in Chicago! I also enjoy getting my hands dirty with some DIY crafts/projects.

I was trying to rediscover my inner health nut as I work on my weight loss. I gained weight during my separation/divorce and now with my last pregnancy I am at my heaviest but I plan to get back down to a healthier weight range.

I get great joy helping others. I am all about giving back to my community. My family has helped raise awareness for child hunger with Child Hunger Ends Here, worked with Champion for Kids on multiple Simple Service Projects and I have recently become a Feeding America Hunger Relief Advocate.

Are you a brand and want to know why you should work with A Blender Mom? I know sometimes it’s all about the numbers. If you are looking for my stats I can provide you with a media kit that has all that you’ll need to help decide if we are worthy of a blogger/brand connection. What makes A Blender Mom different from the rest? There are many, many blogs out there. When I connect with a brand or cause that I believe in, I do my best to give them my all. I share real photos and honest opinions. I am also a firm believer that bloggers do not work for free.
